Veg Momo





Ingredients:
  • Corn flour/ potato starch (1/4 cup)
  • Refined flour (1/2 cup)
  • Boiled water 
  • Salt to taste 
  • Cabbage (1 cup)
  • Carrots(1/2 cup)
  • Onion (2 tsp, Finely chopped)
  • Black pepper (1/4 tsp)
  • Chopped garlic (1/2 tsp)
  • Soya sauce(1/2 tsp)
  • Vinegar (1/2 tsp)
  • Oil (1 tsp)



How to make momo

Prepare chili sauce:

  1. Take boil water in cup and wet the red chili (7 pieces) for 1 hrs.
  2. Blend the peeled boiled tomato 2 pieces ( discard the skin) and red chili in a mixer grinder by adding little water (tomato paste)
  3. Heat oil in pan and add garlic (2 tsp) then sauté for 1 min
  4. Add the tomato paste, sugar(1/2 tsp), vinegar(1 tsp), salt to taste, and soya sauce(1/2 tsp) in the pan and cook on medium flame for 4 mins with constantly stirring so that it does not burn 
          Prepare momo:
  1. In a bowl take cabbage, carrots, onion, black pepper, chopped garlic, soya sauce, oil, salt  to taste and mix them very well and keep them aside (veg stuff )
  2.      To make momo dough, take corn four or potato starch, refined flour, salt in a bowl and mix them very well by slowly adding boiled water and make a smooth soft dough. Cover the dough and keep it aside for 30 min
  3.      Take small part of the dough and knead it for 2-3 mins once again and then roll  it into a circle (3"- 4" diameter, circle should not be too thick or too thin)
  4. Take one tsp of veg stuff and put at the center of the each rolled out circle
  5. Take one end of the flat circle and gather the edges like a pleats around the circles and then take the pleats together to form a pouch-like momo and then  press the edges. 
  6. Cover all those momo with a wet cloths to avoid drying out
  7. Boil the water in a large pot until the smoke coming out. Take those momo in a steamer and place the steamer on the boil water (take such amount of  water so that the momo does not touch the water)
  8. Cover the pot very well and steam it on high flame for 10 min ( The momo are done when the surface of the mono become shiny sheen)
  9. serve the mono with Red chili sauce.
